Right when I think it can’t get any worse for the morbidly obese, the National Institute on Aging just released a study showing the brain masses of the clinically look 16 years older than the brains of lean individuals. This was based on definitive results of high definition brain scans done on 94 people. Paul Thompson, Professor of neurology at UCLA, says this represents “severe brain degeneration”  Loss of brain tissue impairs cognitive function and puts you at great risk for Alzheimer’s and other diseases of the brain. Thompson says you can greatly reduce your risk for Alzheimer’s if you eat health, exercise and keep your weight under control.

The sad news is that more than 300 million people worldwide are now classified as obese according to the World Health Organization. Another 1 billion are overweight!
